South Africa supports China and Brazil's peace plan to end war in Ukraine
The Republic of South Africa (RSA) supports the "peace plan" to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war proposed by China and Brazil, according to RSA President Cyril Ramaphosa following a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
According to him, South Africa backs the six-point consensus proposed by China and Brazil to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
"A high level of political trust has been established between China and RSA. There is a deep traditional friendship between the countries. Our positions and goals align on many issues," said Ramaphosa.
The South African leader is on an official visit to China. He plans to participate in the China-Africa Cooperation Forum Summit, which will take place from September 4 to 6.
Peace plan to end Ukraine-Russia war
In June this year, a peace summit was held in Switzerland to implement Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's peace formula.
The meeting was attended by representatives of around 100 countries and international organizations. During the meeting, three formula issues were discussed: nuclear security, food security and freedom of navigation, and humanitarian issues.
Official Kyiv intends to hold a second peace summit in Saudi Arabia by the end of the year.
Alternative peace plans
Before the summit in Switzerland, China began promoting its own alternative peace plan to foreign governments.
Brazil proposed its own version of a plan to end the war, suggesting that Ukraine should give up Crimea.
In June 2023, Cyril Ramaphosa visited Kyiv and proposed his 10-point plan to end the war.
