'Soldiers on frontline await': Ukraine's MFA anticipates increased shells deliveries from EU
Ukraine expects the EU to increase the supply of artillery shells as soon as possible. Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba says there is a concrete understanding of what needs to be done and how.
"We have discussed ways in which the European Union can increase the supply of artillery shells to Ukraine in the required quantity," Kuleba says at a press conference with his Portuguese counterpart João Gomes Cravinho, who is on a visit to Ukraine.
According to Kuleba, there is a concrete understanding of what needs to be done and how to do it. He welcomes the EU's active position in finding these solutions.
"I can say right away that Ukrainian soldiers on the frontline await this decision and will be grateful to every European country that will help to ensure that as many artillery shells as possible get to Ukraine as soon as possible," Kuleba emphasizes.
Shells for Ukraine
In March 2023, the EU promised to provide Ukraine with one million artillery shells within one year.
According to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, Ukraine will receive 524,000 shells by March 2024. This is 52% of the target.
Earlier, the European Commissioner for the EU Internal Market Thierry Breton said that by the spring of 2024, the production capacity of defense companies in the EU would be more than a million artillery shells.
Europe may turn to companies in South Korea, Turkey, and South Africa to purchase the shells.
