Soft donuts with cherries and poppy seeds: Easy homemade recipe

Soft donuts with poppy and cherry are a simple way to add variety to your menu. They are made from readily available ingredients in just a few minutes. This dessert is perfect for everyday tea time or a festive table, according to the Instagram page of Ukrainian food blogger Anna Stankevych.
Recipe for soft donuts
Ingredients for 16 donuts:
- Flour – 450 g;
- Warm water – 250 ml;
- Oil – 50 ml;
- Sugar – 60 g;
- Salt – 1/4 tsp;
- Dry yeast – 8 g (use three times more if wet yeast);
- Filling – poppy seeds and cherries.
For the cherry filling: add 2 tbsp sugar and 1 tbsp starch to 400 g cherries, bring to a boil, then let cool.
Instructions:
- Mix warm water, salt, sugar, yeast, and oil until dissolved.
- Sift the flour, add the wet ingredients, and knead the dough. Leave to rise for 1.5 hours.
- Lightly grease the surface with oil, divide the dough into 16 portions, place a teaspoon of filling into each, and fold.
- Let the donuts rise for 20–30 minutes.

Fry in oil over medium heat until golden, placing the sealed side down first. Once cooled, sprinkle the donuts with powdered sugar.
