Slovakia announces expulsion of Russian diplomat from country
The Slovak Republic has decided to expel an employee of the Russian Embassy on Thursday, September 14, 2023, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia.
The decision was made due to the individual's activities that directly violated the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and were well-documented by competent authorities of the Slovak Republic.
"The mentioned person must leave the territory of the Slovak Republic within 48 hours," the statement says.
Russian ambassador called on the carpet
The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic also summoned the Russian Ambassador to Slovakia and strongly urged the Russian Representation in Slovakia and its representatives to conduct their activities in accordance with the applicable law.
They were reminded to adhere to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which both countries have adhered to in the past, and to refrain from further actions that would contradict this Convention, as well as other provisions of international law and diplomatic customs.
Expulsion of Russian diplomats from other countries
Recently, 22 diplomats and 23 technical staff members along with their families were expelled from the Russian diplomatic mission in Chisinau, Moldova, following a spy scandal.
Additionally, on September 1st, the Danish government informed Russian Ambassador Vladimir Barbin that the staff of the Russian Embassy in Copenhagen should be reduced.
