Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has rejected all requests from citizens of the country to join the Ukrainian army to participate in the war against Russia. Since taking office, he has officially received four such requests, citing TASR.

It was noted that one of the requests was submitted by a Slovak citizen during the tenure of former President Zuzana Čaputová, but its outcome was only decided by the current head of state.

"If Slovak citizens want to legally participate in combat on the side of the Ukrainian army, they must first ask the president of the republic for permission to serve in the armed forces of another state," the office of the Slovak president explained.

They also said that if Slovak citizens join the Armed Forces of Ukraine without the required permission, they risk criminal prosecution.

Support for Ukraine from Slovakia

The government of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico halted military assistance to Ukraine from state reserves last autumn after coming to power.

Recently, the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the country would no longer supply military weapons to Ukraine. However, Slovakia has found another way to assist Ukraine.
