The Slovak Association of Transporters has announced the continuation of the blockade at the border crossing Vyshne Nemecke - Uzhhorod from 15:00 on Monday, December 11, reports Topky.sk.

It is reported that the protest by Slovak long-haul truck drivers at the Ukrainian-Slovak border will continue until further notice. The decision to extend the blockade was made by the president of the Union.

"Entry into the territory of the Slovak Republic for cargo transport will be blocked. Passenger transport will not be restricted," stated the trade union.

The Association of Transporters also noted that they made the decision to extend the blockade based on an assessment of the information received and its impact on the Slovak market of automotive transportation.

Border blockade with Slovakia

On Friday, December 1, the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, Andrii Demchenko, told RBC-Ukraine that Slovak carriers initiated a blockade at the border with Ukraine. This occurred at the Vyshne Nemecke – Uzhhorod checkpoint.

This marked the second attempt by Slovaks to block truck traffic in Ukraine.

Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal held negotiations with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. One of the topics discussed was an agreement on controls at checkpoints. Yesterday, on December 5, it became known that Slovak carriers had unblocked the movement of trucks.

There are 5 border checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Slovak border. Two of them allow for the passage of automotive transport, two are for railways, and one is for pedestrians.
