Situation in Kupiansk direction, where ISW predicted Russian offensive
On the Kupiansk direction, the offensive actions of Russian terrorists have slowed down. Our military is inflicting losses on the enemy, reports Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, during a television marathon.
"The enemy is indeed advancing on the Kupiansk direction, engaging in active assault operations. Just recently, we repelled 7 enemy attacks. Currently, we observe a slight slowdown in their advance. This is because our military is inflicting significant damage, forcing them to retreat and recover their losses in terms of personnel and equipment. Such offensives occur constantly and in waves," said Syniehubov.
As the head of the Regional Military Administration noted, it is expected that after recovery, along with stabilized weather conditions, the enemy will return to its intentions of advancing towards the settlement of Synkivka in the Kupiansk district. This could potentially create conditions for the possible blockade of Kupiansk itself.
"However, the enemy's efforts, ongoing for more than 6 months, have yielded no results for the Russians. We have not allowed any territorial losses," added Syniehubov.
Situation on the Kupiansk direction
In late December, the commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported that Russian forces continue intensive offensive actions on the Kupiansk direction and are regrouping near Lyman.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces do not rule out the possibility that the Russian army aims to capture Kupiansk, particularly by advancing from the north and east, using it as a foothold for further advances.
As analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported, that in the coming weeks, the enemy may intensify efforts to capture Kupiansk.
