Singer Chicherina to be prosecuted for supporting war and Russian propaganda
The indictment against the Russian singer and propagandist Yulia Chicherina has been forwarded to court, according to the Prosecutor General's Office.
Russian singer and propagandist Yulia Chicherina is charged with offenses against the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine. These include illegal crossing of the state border and public mockery of the state flag of Ukraine, as well as propagating and justifying war and supporting armed aggression by Russia against Ukraine.
Chicherina could face life imprisonment for these charges.
According to the investigation, since 2014, the Russian rock singer has been using her popularity to justify Russia's aggression against Ukraine. She publicly called for aggressive war and deliberate actions aimed at changing the territory and state border of Ukraine, in violation of the order established by the Constitution of Ukraine.
The case against Chicherina
In March 2022, Chicherina illegally entered the temporarily occupied Energodar and removed the flag from the local city hall.
At that time, law enforcement qualified her actions as criminal offenses under two articles of the Criminal Code:
- Part 3 of Article 110 (violations against the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine);
- Part 1 of Article 338 (disrespect for state symbols).
The criminal acts could lead to a life sentence for the offender.
It has also been reported that a reward of $50,000 was promised in the United States for information leading to the capture of Chicherina, who has been openly supporting militants for years, following the incident with the flag.
