Similar to Russian Lancet: Iran starts developing new drone
Iran has begun developing a new kamikaze drone similar to Russian Lancet. Russia uses these drones in Syria and for attacks in Ukraine, according to Forbes.
The details of the drone's production were disclosed in a report by the Iranian news agency Tasnim, which is connected with the Iranian paramilitary Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
“Assuming that the new loitering munition manufactured by the IRGC is inspired by the Russian-made Lancet, the drone must have a flight endurance of 30 to 60 minutes and carry a payload of 3 to 6 kilograms within a range of 40 kilometers,” the report concluded.
It is interesting to note that the Iranian drone is not a copy of the Russian Lancet. However, it has a similar basic design and most likely has the same range and payload.
At the same time, there is no evidence that Russia has provided Iran with any of its Lancets or even designs for their local manufacture.
Lancet drones
Lancet is a Russian barrage munition that has a speed of up to 300 km/h. At the same time, the Russian drone has a maximum weight of 12 kg.
This drone is designed to hit moving targets that it can find on its own or can be homed on.
At the end of 2023, the media reported that Russia could have increased the range of its Lancet attack drones from 40 to 60 kilometers.
Earlier this year, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov said that Ukraine was developing its own analog of the Russian Lancet kamikaze drone.
