Shooting down Shaheds with drones: Zelenskyy reveals details of Ukraine’s newest weaponry

Ukraine is currently defending its skies from Russian Shahed drones using one of the most advanced technologies of modern warfare, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated during his evening address.
According to him, a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief was held today, where financial support for the military was discussed. Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko presented a report at the meeting.
"We’re working to ensure absolute stability in the financial support of our soldiers," the President said. The protection of Ukrainian airspace from Russian attacks was also discussed.
"An important topic that was discussed at the meeting today was the protection of Ukrainian skies, specifically, shooting down Shahed drones, including with the help of other drones. This is one of the most advanced technologies in modern warfare. I’m grateful to everyone who implements it, who provides this new opportunity for any army - to defend our country from drones with drones," Zelenskyy stated.
He instructed the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work more actively with partners to fund the production of such drone interceptors.
"We will continue to expand this effort as much as possible, and each region will carry specific responsibility for this work," he emphasized.
Ukraine shoots down Russian Shaheds with drones
In early April, Ukraine’s defense industry unveiled a new drone designed to intercept enemy Shahed-type UAVs. Over the past few months, this development has already destroyed dozens of enemy drones.
Earlier, Commander of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces, Vadym Sukharevskyi, said Ukraine continues to respond to every enemy action with corresponding countermeasures, and Ukrainian forces have begun intercepting Shaheds using FPV drones.
He also noted that Ukraine now possesses laser technologies capable of striking aerial targets at certain altitudes.
