On the eve of the incident, the Volyn region was under Russian drone attacks throughout the day, resulting in damage to a critical infrastructure facility.
This was reported by Volyn Regional Military Administration head Roman Romanyuk.
"Over the past 24 hours, air raid alerts were issued several times in every district of the region due to Shahed-type UAVs. As a result of one of the attacks, a critical infrastructure facility in our region was damaged," Romanyuk wrote.
Emergency services are working at the strike site, and efforts to deal with the aftermath are ongoing. There have been no reports of casualties or fatalities.
The head of the regional administration also reiterated the request not to publish or share photos and videos on social media showing the consequences of strikes or the locations of impacts.
On February 6, the Air Force warned of drone movements over Volyn shortly before the attacks began. Air raid alerts were announced in the Lutsk, Kamin-Kashyrskyi, Kovel, and Volodymyr districts.
As is known, Russian forces target western regions less frequently than others, but from time to time also strike regions far from their border with missiles and drones, and Volyn is no exception.
For instance, last month Russian troops attacked the Volyn region throughout the night, leaving more than 103,000 consumers without electricity due to damage to energy infrastructure.
Attacks were also reported in late December, when thousands of residents were left without power following drone strikes.
Beyond damage to infrastructure, civilians in Volyn have also suffered from the attacks. Earlier, a Russian strike on Lutsk damaged buildings and left people injured.
