Russian leader Vladimir Putin has seriously miscalculated in his approach to US President Donald Trump, said US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.

Graham stated that he completely understands Trump’s frustration over Russia’s continued attacks on Ukraine, which indicate a lack of genuine interest in sitting down for peace talks.

"Putin has seriously miscalculated President Trump. I hope countries like China, India, and Brazil — who prop up Putin’s war machine —are about to pay a long overdue price," Graham said.

He added that the US Congress "in an overwhelmingly bipartisan fashion" is ready to support "Trump in his efforts to get the parties to the peace table."

Trump's deadline for Putin

Earlier, US President Donald Trump warned Russia of new sanctions if Russian leader Vladimir Putin did not end the war against Ukraine. He gave the Kremlin leader 50 days to make a decision.

Trump also said he plans to impose 100% secondary tariffs on countries that continue to trade with Russia.

At the same time, the US President noted that if Putin refuses to meet the deadline and agree to a peace deal, "it's going to be too bad" for Russia.

Today, Trump said he is once again disappointed with Putin’s actions and has shortened the original 50-day deadline he gave Putin to reach a ceasefire with Ukraine.

According to the US leader, he is now giving Russia "10 or 12" days to resolve the issue with Ukraine, as no progress has been made.
