Ukraine is preparing an updated document on security guarantees aimed at ensuring reliable protection against renewed Russian aggression and a real prospect for post-war reconstruction, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Details of talks with partners

The head of state said he held detailed talks with the representatives of US President Donald Trump’s team — Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Senator Lindsey Graham and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also joined the discussion.

According to the President, the conversation was positive and focused on strengthening diplomacy, possible steps toward achieving peace, and involving European countries in the security process. Zelenskyy noted that documents on security guarantees must be as relevant as possible in the light of current global challenges.

"Ukraine must receive reliable security, and that is the main goal. The key is how and what we all discuss with Russia. Ukrainians must clearly understand how partners will respond in the event of renewed Russian aggression and what will actually deter Russia from attacks," Zelenskyy said.

He added that a joint position with partners should be based on strong decisions and the right compromises, which Ukraine is currently working on with the United States.

He also said the sides agreed to maintain constant contact in the coming days to strengthen the joint document between Ukraine and the United States.

"I am grateful to everyone working to find the right solutions, and Ukraine appreciates all US efforts aimed at achieving a just peace. This is what can pave the way for a reliable end to the war," the President concluded.

Situation around security guarantees

Recently, Zelenskyy said Russia had issued a new ultimatum, demanding that Ukrainian forces withdraw from Donbas within two months.

The President has also criticized Donald Trump’s peace initiatives. According to Zelenskyy, Trump’s team is ready to pressure Ukraine for territorial concessions to secure a quick end to the war, which is a key flaw in their plan.

In addition, it was previously reported that the United States is ready to provide Ukraine with real security guarantees only after hostilities end. For now, the US side links this issue to the condition that Ukrainian forces withdraw from parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
