Security guarantees for Ukraine must take effect immediately, without waiting for the cessation of hostilities, Rai reports.

“It is important that the security guarantees promised to Kyiv by the countries of the Coalition of the Willing be implemented immediately, without waiting for the end of the fighting,” President Vlodymyr Zelenskyy said.

According to the Ukrainian leader, this involves not only military support for Ukraine but also economic guarantees. Zelenskyy also added that 26 countries have expressed their readiness to support Ukraine’s security, calling it “an important step forward.”

Security guarantees for Ukraine

Following the August 18 meeting at the White House between US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and European leaders, active discussions on security guarantees for Ukraine began.

Zelenskyy outlined three key blocks of security guarantees for Ukraine: preserving the Ukrainian armed forces, cooperation with NATO countries, and sanctions against Russia.

Ukrainian President also emphasized that Ukraine needs legally binding security guarantees from key European countries and the United States, rather than another Budapest Memorandum.

After the September 4 meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that a political and military proposal to provide security guarantees to Ukraine, coming from 35 leaders, is currently on the table.
