Secretary of Ukrainian Defense Council announces discussing energy security during meeting
"An upcoming Supreme Commander-in-Chief's High Council meeting, dedicated to Ukraine's energy security in winter, will take place soon," says the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksiy Danilov, in his interview with "Ukrainske Radio."
"Let me share a little secret: at the upcoming Supreme Commander-in-Chief's High Council meeting, the President of Ukraine has tasked us to hear reports on this matter from the Prime Minister, the Minister of Energy, Deputy Prime Minister Kubrakov, Shchyhol, and everyone involved. This issue will be discussed at the nearest High Council meeting," explained the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
Danilov also addressed questions regarding Ukraine's readiness for the cold season of 2023-2024 and the level of protection of its energy facilities.
The Secretary of the NSDC believes that Russia will attempt to target Ukraine's energy complex this year as well, to "rattle the nerves" of Ukrainians, but the country is better prepared for these challenges.
"We are much better prepared now than we were in February 2022. Our energy experts have gained experience in how to perform such a complex task. We can't say that we can protect everything, but it will be much better than last year," he emphasized.
Winter preparation
Currently, Ukraine's energy system operates steadily, and issues with electricity are only observed in the frontline regions frequently shelled by the enemy. However, energy experts warn that winter could be challenging due to new attacks from Russia.
In particular, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported that Russians are attempting to reestablish missile production to shell Ukraine again during the cold period.
The Main Intelligence Directorate does not rule out the possibility that Russians may launch massive attacks on Ukraine's territory. Occupiers will continue to use these methods throughout the entire occupation. However, intelligence emphasizes that to some extent, Russia has depleted its missile potential.
