Second missile strike on Sumy causes heavy civilian casualties, local authorities say

The Head of Sumy City Military Administration, Serhii Kryvosheienko, reported that a second missile strike on Sumy caused the highest number of casualties, with Russian forces planning the attack to target civilians as much as possible.
"The colossal cruelty of Russian terror. This morning, two missile strikes were launched at the center of Sumy. It was the second strike, with a ballistic missile, that resulted in human casualties, with a high number of deaths and injuries," said Kryvosheienko.
He explained that the second ballistic missile, fired by the Russians at Sumy, was likely filled with shrapnel elements and exploded in the air to cause maximum damage to people on the city's streets.
"According to preliminary conclusions, most of the civilian casualties were caused by these shrapnel elements. The explosion occurred approximately 200 meters from the first impact site, in an area with residential buildings, educational institutions, and shops," noted the Head of the Sumy City Military Administration.
He emphasized that such actions by the Russian forces indicated a planned attack on civilian infrastructure and peaceful people on the streets.
Kryvosheienko added that emergency services, law enforcement, and experts were still working at the site.
"Official statements regarding the type of ammunition used by the terrorists to kill as many people as possible will be issued soon. My sincere condolences to the families of the victims. We are fighting for every life in the city's hospitals," he concluded.
Missile strike on Sumy
Today, April 13, Russia carried out a double missile strike on the center of Sumy, using two ballistic missiles.
As a result of the attack, at least 32 people were killed, including children, and the number of wounded has reached 99, including 11 children, according to the latest reports.
The strike took place on Palm Sunday, when the city's streets were filled with people.
The enemy's tactics during today's bombardment were similar to the recent attack in Kryvyi Rih. According to local authorities, Russia again attacked with a missile carrying cluster munitions, and the enemy missile exploded above the city.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the international community to respond strongly to the terror. French President Emmanuel Macron also condemned the attack, stating that Russia is ignoring calls for a ceasefire.
