Russian strike on Kyiv on July 2
During the night of July 2, Russia carried out an unprecedented large-scale attack on Ukraine, launching a total of 570 aerial weapons, including hundreds of drones and dozens of ballistic and cruise missiles.
Ukraine's air defense forces were forced to repel the combined assault. However, after some ballistic missiles penetrated the defenses, significant damage was recorded in the capital from direct strikes and falling debris.
In particular, civilian infrastructure was damaged or destroyed across seven districts of the city. The State Emergency Service released footage from sites where firefighters were battling blazes in residential apartment buildings and a hotel, with rescue crews working for hours to extinguish the fires.
Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the site of the tragedy in Kyiv's Darnytskyi district. He stressed that Russia would inevitably face consequences for the massive strike on Kyiv.
