Russia launched another large-scale aerial assault on Ukraine overnight on July 2, with Kyiv serving as the primary target, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

Weapons used in the attack

This time, Russia deployed a mix of air-, land-, and sea-launched missiles, along with hundreds of attack drones.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched a total of 570 aerial weapons, including:

  • 496 attack drones of various types, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, Banderol, and Parodiya decoy drones;
  • 24 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles;
  • 34 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
  • 8 Kalibr cruise missiles;
  • 4 Zircon anti-ship missiles;
  • 4 Kh-59/69 guided air-to-surface missiles.

Air defense results

As of 9:00 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had destroyed or electronically suppressed 524 aerial targets, including:

  • 4 ballistic missiles;
  • 32 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
  • 8 Kalibr cruise missiles;
  • 4 Kh-59/69 guided missiles;
  • 476 drones of various types.

Damage from the attack

According to preliminary information:

  • 25 ballistic missiles and 12 attack drones struck 33 locations;
  • Debris from intercepted drones fell at 18 locations.

The Ukrainian Air Force said the status of several missiles is still being verified.

Several Russian attack drones also remained in Ukrainian airspace as of the latest update. The Air Force urged residents not to ignore air raid alerts.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the number of people killed and injured in Kyiv continued to rise following Russia's overnight attack on July 2.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service released the first photos from the aftermath, showing widespread fires and destruction across seven districts of the capital.
