Scientists have discovered that a diet that includes a large amount of fresh fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products without meat is closely linked to healthy aging. It also helps protect against 11 diseases and brain aging, according to the Daily Mail.

What diet is highly effective against aging and diseases?

Giving up meat could be the key to avoiding 11 fatal diseases in later life, including almost all types of cancer, diabetes, and cognitive decline. This is what the scientists' analysis showed.

It is known that a plant-based diet is rich in fiber, which stimulates bowel function.

Such a diet is also rich in essential vitamins and minerals but contains less fat and salt.

For the study, international researchers tracked the health and diet of 100,000 Americans aged 50 and older for over 30 years, recording cases of 11 common age-related diseases.

These included diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart attack, heart disease, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, lung disease, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis.

The scientists also studied the cognitive functions of participants and their overall physical and mental health. Experts found that those who followed a plant-based diet with low-fat dairy had an 86% higher chance of avoiding 11 diseases and maintaining their cognitive, physical, and mental well-being compared to those who followed a meat-based diet.

Those who followed a completely plant-based diet without dairy had a 46% higher chance of avoiding serious health problems.

Researchers also found that consuming a large amount of ultra-processed foods, such as ready-made meals, frozen pizza, sodas, and even supermarket bread, reduces the likelihood of "healthy aging" by 32%.

In the journal Nature Medicine, experts stated that their findings are significant given the growing aging population worldwide.

"Our findings suggest that dietary patterns rich in plant-based foods, with moderate inclusion of healthy animal-based foods may enhance overall healthy aging, guiding future dietary guidelines," the scientists said in their statement.
