Scholz declares readiness to announce vote of confidence in his government by Christmas
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Sunday that he is ready to hold a vote of confidence in parliament before Christmas, which would pave the way for early elections following the collapse of his ruling coalition, reports Reuters.
This date comes earlier than January 15, when Scholz had proposed holding the vote of confidence for his government.
The conservative opposition, led by Friedrich Merz, disagreed with the chancellor and insisted on holding elections in January. The opposition believes Scholz should call for a vote of confidence in December to clarify everything before Christmas and the New Year.
After the coalition's collapse, Scholz stated he was ready to bring the vote of confidence before the Bundestag.
The opposition in Germany does not rule out forming a coalition with Scholz's party but without him.
