What is known about the attack
Earlier, the Ukrainian Navy announced the destruction of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) border patrol ship Izumrud near Novorossiysk.
According to the military, the vessel was struck by a Ukrainian Sargan-3000 uncrewed surface vessel (USV), after which it sank. The attack left members of the crew dead and injured.
The Izumrud is known for its direct involvement in the November 25, 2018, attack on Ukrainian Navy vessels in the Kerch Strait, when Russian forces seized Ukrainian sailors.
