OSINT analysts note that Russian authorities have not announced any evacuation for people living downstream. Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov did not issue any comment throughout the day.
The local Ministry of Emergency Situations has also remained silent. Russian authorities may be trying to suppress information about the incident.
What is known about the strike on the Belgorod dam
Videos and reports of an attack on the Belgorod dam surfaced online today. After a nighttime drone strike, massive amounts of water started rushing through the breached structure, causing the reservoir level to fall by over a meter within hours.
Four Russian brigades are stationed in this area, near the village of Grafovka and further downstream along the Siverskyi Donets River. Flooding affected bunkers where Russian soldiers were located, putting units of the 128th, 116th, 68th, and 136th Russian Armed Forces brigades at risk.
In the evening, Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces Robert "Madyar" Brovdi confirmed that the drone attack on the Belgorod Reservoir was carried out by operators from the 1st Separate Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces. He said the strikes caused "the dam to crack."
The 16th Army Corps of the Ukrainian Armed Forces added that flooding after the dam strike was so severe that it cut off Russian forces who had crossed the Siverskyi Donets near Vovchansk from the main units.
