Sandu wins first round of elections in Moldova: Final figures
In Moldova, according to the processing of 100% of protocols from the presidential elections, the current head of state, Maia Sandu, received the majority of votes. Her main opponent was Alexandru Stoianoglo, according to data from the Central Electoral Commission of Moldova.
A total of 2,219 protocols were processed, representing a full count.
Thus, Maia Sandu, the current President of Moldova, who has held the position since 2020, received support from 42.45% of voters.
Alexandru Stoianoglo, the candidate supported by the pro-Russian Socialist Party (PSRM), garnered 25.98%.
Renato Usatîi, leader of the Our Party, received 13.79%.
Since Sandu did not achieve 50% of the votes, a second round of the presidential elections is set to take place, planned for November 3.
Elections in Moldova
Earlier it was reported that on Sunday, October 20, presidential elections were held in Moldova, coinciding with a referendum on the country's accession to the European Union.
Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova accused the Russian side of creating artificial queues at polling stations.
Furthermore, earlier, Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov accused Russia of a large-scale campaign to destabilize the political situation in the country. According to her, Moscow spent around €100 million trying to disrupt the presidential elections and the referendum on Moldova's EU membership.
