Egyptian Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has stopped making the starting lineup. Amid this, he made a series of bold statements about the club situation, his relationship with coach Arne Slot, and his future, according to The Athletic.
''They threw me under the bus''
On Saturday, December 6, in the Premier League match between Liverpool and Leeds (3–3), Mohamed Salah was left out of the starting XI for the third game in a row. For the 33‑year‑old Egyptian, this is the first time such a streak has happened in his career at Anfield.
After the game, the forward reacted emotionally to his third consecutive benching, stating that he feels like he has been ''thrown under the bus'' by his club amid a difficult season.
''I have done so much for this club over the years, especially last season. Now I’m sitting on the bench, and I don’t know why. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus, '' he said.
The striker also hinted that summer promises made to him were broken: "I got a lot of promises in the summer, and so far I’m on the bench for three games, so I can’t say they kept their promises.''
Issues with Slot
Salah unexpectedly claimed that his relationship with head coach Arne Slot has sharply deteriorated: ''I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden, we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.''
''We'll see what happens next''
The player noted that Liverpool’s next home match against Brighton could be his last at Anfield before he leaves for the Africa Cup of Nations.''I will be in Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go to the Africa Cup of Nations. I don’t know what’s going to happen when I’m there,'' he said.
Season crisis and Salah's role
Amid a difficult season, Liverpool has already suffered 10 defeats across all competitions, losing the Community Shield, exiting the League Cup, and currently sitting in 8th place in the Premier League.
Despite this, Salah remains one of the team’s top performers with five goals and three assists in the 2025/26 season.
