Rutte to be officially announced as NATO Secretary General tomorrow
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte will be announced as the new NATO Secretary General tomorrow, June 26. He will assume a position in October, according to Barron's.
As reported by the agency, unnamed diplomats have revealed that Mark Rutte would be announced as NATO Secretary General after ambassadors from all 32 member countries of the Alliance give the green light for his appointment.
The diplomats clarified that Rutte will succeed the current NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg after Stoltenberg's term ends on October 1.
Last week, it became known that Hungary and Slovakia supported Mark Rutte's candidacy for the position of NATO Secretary General.
Thus, he gained the support of many Alliance countries. Only Romania remained, which had put forward its candidate, President Klaus Iohannis.
On June 20, it was announced that Iohannis withdrew his candidacy for the position of Secretary General. Therefore, Rutte has no contenders left.
