NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte believes that the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine should be considered only after a peace agreement is reached, El Mundo cites Rutte's statement.

"I think President Trump (US President Donald Trump – ed.) is right that before supporting peace, it is necessary to first achieve it. And there is no peace yet," Rutte stated.

According to the NATO Secretary General, Trump has indeed led to a breakthrough in initiating negotiations with both Ukraine and Russia.

Security guarantees for Ukraine

Ukraine seeks security guarantees from the West to prevent another Russian invasion. Currently, Europe is considering deploying a contingent of up to 30,000 soldiers to Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has emphasized that Ukraine needs security guarantees even before a potential ceasefire with Russia. During a meeting with US President Donald Trump, he reminded that Russia has repeatedly violated previous truces.

Meanwhile, Trump insists that the "end of the war" must come before security guarantees for Ukraine are provided.

Notably, the US refuses to participate in granting security guarantees to Ukraine, wanting Europe to take full responsibility for the matter.
