Russians trying to capture Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi railway hub - Ukrainian military
Russian occupiers are attempting to capture Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, a strategically important railway crossing in the Kupiansk direction, as commander of the reconnaissance unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Denys Yaroslavskyi, told Radio Svoboda.
"The enemy is trying to storm us day and night. Their attempts do not stop. They are trying to capture Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, which is indeed a strategic railway junction. They are also causing damage to the crossings and all the facilities that can cut us off Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi," he said.
Yaroslavskyi notes that the occupiers are indeed trying to encircle Kupiansk, and this is their goal. He adds that the Russians are suffering losses, but they quickly replenish them by moving additional forces.
"We do not feel that the enemy is getting weaker. We know that in the near future, they will attempt repeated assault actions. The situation is very tough," the commander added.
The situation in the Kupiansk direction
The situation in the Lyman-Kupiansk direction escalated in the summer. Russian occupiers intensified their attacks, attempting to break through to the Oskil River. In September, ISW analysts reported a slowdown in the Russian advance on the Kupiansk-Kreminna line.
In mid-October, Syrskyi noted that the Russian advance in the Kupiansk direction had resumed. The occupiers wanted to encircle Kupiansk and reach the Oskil River.
The Russians continue to send prisoners into meat grinders in the Kupiansk direction, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces must strengthen their maneuverable defense in this area.
