Ground Forces chief visits Kupiansk front, makes decision on maneuverable defense
Ukrainian military will strengthen their maneuverable defense in the Kupiansk direction. Such a decision was made by the commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Oleksandr Syrskyi, during his visit to positions on this section of the front, according to a spokesperson for the Ground Forces, Volodymyr Fitio.
According to him, Syrskyi visited the positions in the Kupiansk direction , on Saturday, October 21.
"We know that the enemy is trying to attack our positions in this direction, but they are not succeeding," the spokesman noted.
Syrskyi discussed the current situation directly with the brigade and unit commanders in this direction.
"Specific orders were given, decisions were made to strengthen our maneuverable defense," Fitio explained.
He notes that Ukrainian defenders on this front not only defend but also make efforts to improve their positions and repel the enemy whenever possible.
In particular, over the past day in the Lyman-Kupiansk direction, the Defense Forces repelled twenty attacks, including in the areas of Synkivka, Ivanivka, Serebrianske forestry, and Spirne. The enemy conducted 13 airstrikes there, which is ten more than the previous day, Fitio reported.
The situation in the Kupiansk direction
The situation in the Lyman-Kupiansk direction escalated in the summer. Russian occupiers intensified their attacks, attempting to break through to the Oskil River. In September, ISW analysts reported a slowdown in the Russian advance on the Kupiansk-Kreminna line.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Defense Forces repelled about 10 enemy attacks in the areas of Nadiia and Serebrianske forestry in the Luhansk region in the Lyman direction over the past day.
Earlier, British intelligence reported that there has been a significant increase in Russian offensive activity in the Kupiansk-Lyman direction over the past two weeks. However, it is unlikely that they will achieve a breakthrough.
In mid-October, Syrskyi noted that the Russian advance in the Kupiansk direction had resumed. The occupiers wanted to encircle Kupiansk and reach the Oskil River.
