Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of October 23

Ukrainian forces continue to conduct defense operations in the east and south, as well as offensive operations in the Melitopol and Bakhmut directions. Over the past day, there have been more than 90 combat clashes, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Enemy attacks
Last night, Russian occupiers launched another missile and aviation strike on Ukraine, using the Shahed-136/131 attack drones. Ukrainian air defense forces successfully destroyed all kamikaze drones.
In total, the enemy carried out 10 missile and 63 aviation strikes and conducted 58 artillery shelling using rocket artillery systems against our troops' positions and civilian settlements.
Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties among the civilian population. Multi-story and private residential buildings, as well as other civilian infrastructure, have suffered damage and destruction.
Russian occupiers also carried out another missile and aviation strike using a guided aviation missile Kh-59 and anti-aircraft guided missiles S-300 on civilian objects in the city of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region. They used 4 Shahed-136/131 attack drones and 1 attack drone of an unidentified type.
Ukrainian air defense forces successfully destroyed the guided aviation missile Kh-59 and all attack drones.
Aircraft strikes were carried out in various locations, including Ivankivka, Kurylivka in the Kharkiv region; Nadiia, Nevske in the Luhansk region; Serebrianka, Spirne, Vyiimka, Ivaniivske, Klishchiivka, Bila Hora, New York, Novokalynove, Berdychiv, Avdiivka, Orlivka, Maryinka, Vuhledar, Zolota Nyva, Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region; Mala Tokmachka in the Zaporizhia region; Olhivka, Lvove, Tyahynka, Ivaniivka, Tokarivka, Poniativka, Mykitivka, Prydniprovske, Barvinok in the Kherson region.
Approximately 140 populated areas in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions came under artillery fire.
Situation on the frontlines
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group North in the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains largely unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas, actively conducts sabotage activities to prevent the transfer of Ukrainian forces to critical areas, and increases the density of mine and explosive obstacles along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group Khortytsia in the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian troops repelled over 15 enemy attacks in the areas of the populated settlements of Synkivka and Ivaniivka in the Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, the defense forces successfully repelled about 10 enemy attacks in the areas of Nadiia and Serebryanske forest in the Luhansk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian troops repelled all enemy attacks in the areas of the populated settlements of Bohdanivka, Khromove, Ivanivske, Andriivka, and Druzhba in the Donetsk region. Ukrainian defense forces continue offensive operations south of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, inflicting losses on the enemy in personnel and equipment and consolidating their positions on the achieved front lines.
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group Tavria in the Avdiivka direction, the enemy continues attempts to encircle Avdiivka, but our troops steadfastly hold their defense, inflicting significant losses on the enemy. The enemy's advances in the areas of Keramik, Stepove, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Opytne, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region were unsuccessful, with Ukrainian defense forces repelling over 20 enemy attacks.
In the Maryinka direction, the enemy's attempts at storming in the areas of Maryinka, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region were unsuccessful, with Ukrainian troops repelling 24 enemy attacks.
In the Shakhtarsk and Zaporizhzhia directions, our defenders repelled all enemy attacks in the areas of Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva in the Donetsk region, and Verbove, Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the city of Nova Kakhovka, Kherson region, there has been an increase in security measures by the enemy. The so-called occupation police are searching for up to 60 Russian deserters throughout the city.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian defense forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, inflicting losses on the occupation forces in personnel and equipment and exhausting the enemy along the entire front line.
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group Odesa in the Kherson direction, the defense forces continue counter-battery actions and deliver fire strikes on the enemy's rear areas.
Enemy losses
Over the past day, the Ukrainian defense aviation carried out 7 strikes on the enemy's personnel, weaponry, and military equipment concentration areas. Rocket forces units destroyed 4 enemy artillery units.
