Russians try to create their own maritime drones, but unsuccessfully - Budanov
The Russian military industry is attempting to develop its own naval strike drones, but so far without success, states head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov.
"They have developments. But they somehow tried to use it. We saw real use once, and all other cases were unsuccessful," Budanov said.
According to him, the unsuccessful use of Russian naval strike drones is due to technical reasons.
Application of maritime drones by the Ukrainian Armed Forces
In contrast to the Russians, Ukrainian military successfully employ maritime strike drones to destroy enemy ships.
For instance, on March 5th, a unit of the Main Directorate of Intelligencee of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine attacked the Russian ship Sergey Kotov using surface drones. As a result of the attack by the Magura V5 maritime drones, the ship suffered damage to its stern, right, and left sides. Sources from RBC-Ukraine reported that a helicopter was on board the ship during the strike.
This is not the first loss suffered by the Russian fleet in the Black Sea. As stated by the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, amidst losses from maritime drones, the Russians keep a minimum number of military ships in the ports of Crimea. Only vessels deemed less valuable by the occupiers are stationed there.
