Russians report on explosions near Sevastopol and Belbek airfield in Crimea
Explosions were reported in the temporarily occupied Crimea on the night of October 24, particularly in Sevastopol, Balaklava, and Belbek, where the Russian airfield is located. Russian air defense forces were actively engaged, according to the Crimean Wind and Sevastopol governor Mikhail Razvozhayev.
Reports indicate that the explosions in the occupied Ukrainian peninsula began around 1:20 a.m. (Moscow time). Later, the governor of Sevastopol announced the activation of air defense systems in response to an alleged missile attack.
According to the governor of Sevastopol, air defense systems are engaged in the city.
"Preliminary information suggests that military forces destroyed one missile at a significant distance from the shore over the water area," he stated on Telegram.
Razvozhayev also claimed that "no civilian facilities in the city were damaged."
Meanwhile, residents of Crimea reported loud explosions heard not only around Sevastopol but also in Balaklava, near the Belbek airfield, and in the Baydarskaya Valley, a closed basin in the southwestern part of Crimea, located 40 kilometers southeast of Sevastopol.
The Crimean Wind reports that amidst claims by local officials about the interception of one missile, there were at least five explosions: two between Balaklava and Sevastopol and three near the Belbek airfield.
Four explosions, the first of which was particularly loud, were also heard in the Baydarskaya Valley around 1:10 a.m.
It is worth noting that before this incident, explosions were reported in the occupied Crimea, along with a fire at the Belbek airfield on the night of October 7.
In mid-August, Russian forces claimed a drone attack on Sevastopol, with explosions also heard in Kerch during that attack.
Earlier this month, the largest oil terminal in Crimea burned in Feodosia after being targeted by Ukrainian Defense Forces on October 7. This facility burned for about a week, with tanks exploding on the oil depot’s premises over several days.
