Russians have announced the completion of so-called restoration work at the Mariupol Drama Theater and plan to open it next month, according to the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian Mariupol City Council.
“The place that became one of the sites of the greatest war crimes committed by Russian invaders is now being transformed into a venue for Russian performances and concerts,” the city council reported.
It is known that the Russians have stated they are in the final stage of the restoration work and plan to open the drama theater in December.
“To stage Russian plays on it and effectively ‘sing and dance’ on the bones of the dead residents of Mariupol,” the message stated.
The press service of the Ukrainian Mariupol City Council reminded the public of the tragedy at the drama theater, which occurred on March 16, 2022.
“Russian troops dropped two powerful aerial bombs on the theater, where peaceful residents of Mariupol, including families with children, were sheltering from shelling. The word ‘CHILDREN’ was written in front of the building as a plea for rescue,” the city council wrote.
It was also noted that after occupying the area, the invaders fenced it off.
“The first thing the Russians did was to fence the site of their crime. This was done to hide the clearing of debris containing the bodies of the dead and to prevent documentation of the evidence,” the press service added.

Tragedy at the Mariupol Drama Theater
Mariupol is known as a city that became a symbol of heroic resistance and immense suffering during Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. After a three-month siege from February 24 to May 20, 2022, the city fell under full enemy occupation.
The destruction of the Mariupol Drama Theater occurred on March 16, 2022, when Russian aerial bombs struck the building. Hundreds of civilians, including children, were sheltering inside.
At least 600 people were killed in the attack, making it one of the largest war crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine.
RBC-Ukraine recently reported on satellite images of the massive Mariupol cemetery, which continues to expand each year.
According to various sources, the Russians killed over 100,000 civilians during the occupation of Mariupol.
