On the morning of September 21, Russians once again launched a massive rocket barrage on Ukraine. The cities of Kyiv, Rivne, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, and Khmelnytskyi were targeted. Additionally, some regions had active missile defense systems.

Russia attacks Ukraine with dozens of missiles

The spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force Command called for waiting for the final count, when the number of missiles shot down will be known. He noted that the Russians used dozens of missiles during the attack.

"Dozens of missiles attacked our territory today from strategic aviation. About 10 Tu-95MS aircraft carried out the attack. The missiles were fired from different directions. Air defense was activated in many regions of Ukraine," Ihnat said.

Ukrainian air defense shot down 36 out of 43 missiles

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi spoke about the night attack and the work of air defense.

According to him, at about 3:40 AM, Russians attacked Ukraine with X-101/X-555/X-55 air-launched cruise missiles.

A total of 43 cruise missiles were launched from 10 Tu-95MS strategic aircraft from the area west of Engels, Russia.

Zaluzhnyi also wrote that the Russians launched the missiles in several waves. They entered the airspace of Ukraine from different directions, constantly changing course along the route.

As a result of combat operations, 36 cruise missiles were destroyed by Ukrainian air defense forces and means.

In addition, at 06:00 AM, the enemy attacked Kharkiv with S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles, killing a woman.

Kyiv missile attack

The Russian attack on the capital city resulted in destruction due to falling missile debris in the Holosiivskyi, Darnytskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Desnianskyi districts.

  • In the Sviatoshynskyi district, there were power outages and water supply disruptions. Later, electricity was restored.
  • In the Shevchenkivskyi district, gas pipelines were damaged, but there were no reported fires.
  • In the Darnytskyi district, an auto repair shop, a vocational school, a two-story building, and two cars were damaged. Seven people were injured, with three of them hospitalized, including an 18-year-old girl and a 9-year-old girl.
  • There were no casualties or damage reported in the Holosiivskyi district.

Kyiv region - Debris fall

According to preliminary data, a man in the Kyiv region was injured as a result of the attack; he sustained shrapnel wounds to his legs.

Private homes of peaceful residents, economic structures, and vehicles have been damaged in several districts of the region, as well as a hospital building.

Debris from rockets also fell on the premises of an enterprise, resulting in a fire.

None of the damaged objects are military targets. Prosecutors, experts, and investigators are documenting the consequences of the enemy's nighttime attack.

Rivne power outages

Explosions occurred in Rivne around 6:20 AM, causing power outages in some areas.

"Power went out in some parts of the city," local media reported.

The authorities in Rivne have not yet provided details about the incident.

Updated. It has become known that the energy and civilian infrastructure in Rivne was hit.

In particular, the car service station and 5 cars on its territory were damaged. No casualties have been reported.

Part of Rivne surrounding area was left without electricity.

Explosions in Kharkiv

Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reported at least six rocket strikes across the city, including in the Slobidskyi district.

"There is damage to civilian infrastructure, and information about casualties is being verified," said Head of the Regional Military Administration Oleh Synehubov.

The Mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, confirmed at least six hits. Later, he reported two casualties as a result of the shelling.

It later became known that the Russians struck Kharkiv with 6 missiles, preliminary S-300, at about 6:00 AM.

The production building of a civilian enterprise was damaged, windows in the emergency medical unit were smashed, and the road was hit.

A 58-year-old man was wounded and hospitalized. A man of 65 years old received minor injuries.

Attack on Khmelnytskyi

Around 6:00 AM, explosions were reported in Khmelnytskyi. The First Deputy Head of the Regional Military Administration, Serhii Tyurin, mentioned the operation of missile defense systems, but there is no further information available at this time.

Strike on Lviv region

According to the Regional Military Administration, explosions occurred in the Drohobych district during the attack. Relevant authorities are currently responding to the situation.

Later, the Head of the Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, reported that Russians launched three rocket strikes on the territory of Drohobych. Two of these strikes hit an industrial facility, resulting in a workshop fire and the destruction of a three-story storage building.

Another rocket strike hit a private two-story warehouse, causing a fire.

Explosions in Cherkasy

Cherkasy Regional Administration reported the activation of missile defense systems, and later, Mayor Andrii Bondarenko confirmed that debris fell on a social infrastructure object in the city center.

"At the moment, there are five casualties, and at least one person is trapped under the rubble," he said.

As later reported by the head of the Regional Military Administration, Ihor Taburets, as a result of the work of the emergency response team, there has been a fall of debris in the central part of the city.

At the hotel in Cherkasy, at the moment of the Russian attack, there could have been up to 23 people, Taburets reported.

Train delays

Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) reported train delays due to power shortages in certain areas of the capital following the morning shelling. This affected several intercity electric trains, including:

  • 712 Kyiv-Kramatorsk
  • 722 Kyiv-Kharkiv

It is reported that backup diesel locomotives have been deployed, and departure information will be announced shortly.
