Russians fired almost 78 Shaheds and 6 missiles at Ukraine: Air defense report
Russia launched six different types of missiles and 78 kamikaze drones at Ukraine on the night of September 26. Ukraine's air defense systems successfully intercepted most of the incoming threats, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
Overnight, Russian forces targeted the Sumy region with two unidentified missiles launched from the Belgorod region and attacked the Odesa region with four guided air missiles (Kh-59/69) from the Black Sea. In total, 78 strike drones were launched from Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Oryol, and Kursk.
Ukrainian air defense destroyed four Kh-59/69 guided missiles and 66 strike drones. Eight drones were lost to tracking, one returned to Russia, and another is still being engaged.
Air defense systems were active in 14 regions across Ukraine, including Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Sumy, Poltava, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, and Kharkiv.
Consequences of overnight attack
Drones were directed at Kyiv, where explosions were heard, and debris from downed drones fell in the city. In the Pechersk district, a residential building and a gas pipe were damaged.
Russian forces also targeted Ivano-Frankivsk, damaging critical infrastructure and causing power outages in parts of the city.
In Mykolaiv, an energy infrastructure facility was hit, while in the Odesa region, a 62-year-old woman was killed in the attack that also damaged buildings and vehicles.
