Russian forces have adopted the tactic of wearing Ukrainian military uniforms on the front lines. But Ukrainian soldiers have invented an algorithm for identifying the enemy, Captain Yuriy Fedorenko, commander of the Achilles battalion of the 92nd separate assault brigade named after Kish Otaman Ivan Sirko of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reports.

"There is an algorithm, but I won't disclose it to the public. It is always difficult, but it is achieved through negotiations and tactics on the battlefield, directly taking control of a representative who is in the form of a pixel but unknown to you," Fedorenko stated.

According to the Ukrainian serviceman, this strategy is not something new from the Russian forces.

"They've used similar tactics in previous wars involving Russia. Over the past year, we saw frequent attempts by the enemy to wear 'pixel' uniforms and infiltrate our rear positions to create chaos and disrupt operations as much as possible," he added.

Despite these challenges, Ukrainian forces have become adept at identifying Russian troops in Ukrainian uniforms.

"We know the tactics, so such cases are becoming fewer and fewer every day. Systematic work to distinguish 'friends and enemies' is being carried out and is sufficiently implemented in the Defense Forces. It will be different in each direction for the sake of truth. Still, most commanders clearly understand and realize how it needs to be done and how to teach their soldiers to distinguish 'friends and enemies,'" the commander noted.

Russian tactics of wearing Ukrainian military uniforms

On November 13, Russian troops were reported attempting an assault in the Kupiansk direction dressed up in Ukrainian military uniforms.

This is not the first case of such tactics from the Russian side. In September 2023, Russian soldiers were recorded wearing Ukrainian military uniforms on the Tavria frontline.

In May 2022, Russian forces dressed as Ukrainian soldiers in the Mykolaiv region tried to capture a Ukrainian observation post.
