Russian troops attack multi-story building in Kupiansk: Casualties reported
Russian occupiers attacked the city of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region on Thursday, January 18. One person was killed and one was wounded, according to the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, and the Interior Ministry of Ukraine.
The Russian occupiers hit an apartment building.
"A 57-year-old woman died as a result of the shelling. A 57-year-old and a 61-year-old man were wounded. The services continue to inspect the sites of the shelling," says the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.
"Emergency workers unblocked the body of the deceased from the rubble and inspected the damaged house," law enforcement officers add.
Kupiansk and the district of Kharkiv region are located on the front line, where the situation on the Lyman-Kupiansk direction has become quite tense in recent weeks. Although Kupiansk was liberated from the Russian occupiers in September 2022, the city is constantly under fire.
Due to the constant shelling, a mandatory evacuation of the population was announced in August last year from the Kupiansk district of the Kharkiv region. It concerned Kupiansk and Kupiansk Vuzlovyi. In particular, the document referred to a partial evacuation of the territories of Kondrashivska village, Kurylivska village, and Kupiansk city territorial communities. Recently, a full mandatory evacuation of the population of Kondrashivka and Kurylivka communities was announced.
Russia also attacked Chuhuiv on January 17. One person was killed and three others were injured. Read more about the consequences of this massive shelling, during which the Russians launched 33 drones and two S-300 missiles at Ukraine, in RBC-Ukraine's report.
