Starting from the evening of January 17, Russian forces, operating in groups, unleashed kamikaze drones on Ukrainian territory and launched missile strikes on the Kharkiv region. While most targets were successfully intercepted, the attacks did not come without consequences, resulting in fatalities and injuries.

Strike on Chuhuiv

As reported by the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian forces struck Chuhuiv with two guided missiles from the S-300 missile system in the Belgorod region of Russia, targeting the Kharkiv region. The strikes hit Chuhuiv.

"Yesterday, at around 22:30, the occupiers delivered two strikes on the city of Chuhuiv. An enemy projectile hit an educational institution building. As a result of the shelling, a 62-year-old woman, who worked as a boiler room operator, was killed. A 63-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman were injured. Both were hospitalized, and their condition is stable," said Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, adding that assistance was provided on the spot to another 82-year-old victim.

Attack on Sumy: Trucks caught fire

In Sumy, rescuers dealt with the aftermath of an enemy attack. Late in the evening on January 17, the technical facility suffered damage due to the falling debris from a downed enemy UAV. Additionally, two trucks caught fire.

"Rescuers promptly extinguished the identified fires and prevented its further spread," added the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

Shelling of Kherson

According to the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine, the enemy targeted residential quarters in Kherson, causing damage to apartment buildings, injuring a woman. An agribusiness in the Beryslav community of the Kherson region was also affected.

"During the night drone attack in the Dnipro district of Kherson, a 50-year-old woman was injured. She was taken to a medical facility," said Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration.

Fire at a farm near Pavlohrad

In the Pavlohrad district, debris from a downed UAV fell on the territory of a farm.

"A fire broke out there. Rescuers quickly brought the fire under control. One building was destroyed, and the roofs of two others were damaged," said Serhii Lysak, head of the Regional Military Administration.

Damage to warehouses due to air defense activity in the Mykolaiv region

The Mykolaiv region also experienced consequences of the Russian attack.

As reported by Vitalii Kim, head of the Regional Military Administration, during the night of January 17, as a result of the anti-aircraft defense units' combat operations against drone attacks, warehouses of an agribusiness in the Snihurivka community were damaged due to falling downed UAVs' debris.

"There are no casualties," he concluded.
