Russian occupying forces have partially withdrawn from some positions on Oleksiivskyi Island near Oleshky on the left bank of the Kherson region, according to a comment by Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces.

According to the spokesperson, Oleksiivskyi Island is located near Oleshky. Russian troops withdrew from some positions there due to active operations by Ukraine’s Defense Forces and the enemy’s low morale and psychological state.

"We are striking them so that they approach the area less frequently," Voloshyn said.

Oleshky

Oleshky is a city in the Kherson region, located on the left bank of the Dnipro River opposite Kherson. Before the full-scale invasion, it had a population of about 24,000.

The city has been under Russian occupation since March 2022. Oleshky holds strategic significance due to its proximity to the Dnipro and Kherson: Russian forces use the area to station personnel, equipment, artillery positions, and logistics.

After the liberation of the right-bank part of the Kherson region in November 2022, Oleshky remained under Russian control.

Since then, the area has regularly been a combat zone, with Ukraine’s Defense Forces striking concentrations of troops, supply depots, and enemy firing positions.

Situation in the Dnipro direction

According to intelligence, Russian forces in this area are regrouping their units and attempting to reestablish logistics.

On January 25, the Southern Defense Forces reported that the Russian army is conducting reconnaissance along the Dnipro River and its channels, striking identified targets and settlements on the right bank.

Over the past 24 hours, Russia attacked Ukrainian positions once in this sector — near the Antonivskyi road bridge.

On January 22, according to the General Staff, Russian forces made one unsuccessful attempt to advance in the Dnipro direction.
