Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 23

Over the past day, January 22, 222 combat clashes took place on the front line. The Pokrovsk direction remains the hottest point of the front, where Ukrainian defenders repelled 94 attacks, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Over the past day, Russian troops carried out one missile strike and 85 air strikes against Ukraine. The Russians used one missile and dropped 226 guided aerial bombs.
The enemy also used 5,862 kamikaze drones for attacks and carried out 3,545 shellings of positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas, 83 of them using multiple launch rocket systems.
Air strikes with guided bombs were carried out, in particular, on Dobropillia in the Donetsk region, as well as Sviatopetrivka, Zaliznychne, Verkhnia Tersa, Rizdvianka, Shevchenkivske, Dolynka, and Vozdvyzhivka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Over the past day, missile forces and artillery of the Defense Forces struck two areas of enemy concentration and one of its artillery systems.
Situation by directions
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, three combat engagements took place over the past day. In addition, the enemy carried out three air strikes, dropping five guided bombs, and conducted 72 shellings of positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas, one of them using a multiple launch rocket system.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, the enemy assaulted the positions of Ukrainian units 12 times in the areas of the settlements of Prylipka, Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory, Ambarne, and toward Izbytske.
In the Kupiansk direction, one enemy attack took place during the day. The Defense Forces repelled the enemy’s assault actions in the area of the settlement of Synkivka.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked ten times, trying to advance in the areas of the settlements of Myrne, Drobysheve, Kolodiazi, Zarichne, Yampil, and Yampolivka.
In the Sloviansk direction, near the settlements of Sviato-Pokrovske, Pazeno, and Siversk, the enemy attacked the positions of our troops five times.
In the Kramatorsk direction, seven combat engagements were recorded in the areas of the settlements of Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Chasiv Yar, and toward Markove.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the enemy carried out 20 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Predtechyne, Pleshchiivka, Ivanopillia, Yablunivka, Rusyn Yar, and Sofiivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, our defenders stopped 92 assault and offensive actions of the aggressor in the areas of the settlements of Shakhove, Ivanivka, Dorozhnie, Rodynske, Sukhetske, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Horikhove, Dachne, and toward Novopavlivka.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, the enemy attacked our positions 12 times in the areas of the settlements of Zelenyi Hai, Verbove, Stepove, Vyshneve, Krasnohirskyi, and toward Nechaivka.
In the Huliaipole direction, the enemy attempted 37 times to advance on the positions of our defenders in the areas of Solodke, Varvarivka, Huliaipole, and toward Zelene and Dobropillia.
In the Orikhiv direction, our defenders repelled an attack in the area of the settlement of Plavni.
Over the past day, the enemy made one unsuccessful attempt to advance in the Prydniprovskyi direction.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of the formation of offensive groupings of the aggressor were detected.
Russia’s losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the start of the full-scale war, Russia has lost approximately 1,232,090 troops.
Russian losses over the past day amounted to 1,280 servicemen.
Ukrainian soldiers also neutralized three tanks, three armored combat vehicles, 33 artillery systems, 449 operational-tactical level unmanned aerial vehicles, 140 units of automotive equipment, and one unit of special equipment of the occupiers.
