Russian troops moving toward Sumy border - Ukrainian military

A significant number of Russian units involved in the Kursk operation have been observed advancing toward the Ukrainian border near the Sumy region, said Vadym Mysnyk, the spokesperson for Ukraine’s Siversk operational-tactical group.
“We had previously detected enemy presence along the entire border, but there were no signs of large formations preparing for offensive actions. However, since the situation in the Kursk region has changed, Russia has concentrated a considerable force there, moving them closer to the border,” Mysnyk explained.
According to the spokesperson, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are reinforcing defenses and continuing combat operations both in the Kursk region and along the border.
Mysnyk noted that the situation in the north remains stable.
"The operational situation has not changed dramatically. The enemy shells the border along the entire strip every day. They use almost the entire available arsenal of weapons. They actively use FPV drones, UAV drops, mortars, and cannon artillery. Of course, the enemy shells the border of the Sumy region the most, and the largest concentration of their forces and means is in this area," he said.
Mysnyk warned of an ongoing threat from Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups, particularly on the flanks where enemy forces are accumulating. However, Ukraine’s Defense Forces are detecting and neutralizing these groups in a timely manner, using counter-sabotage reserves and technical means.
"We manage to detect and destroy them promptly. We have both anti-sabotage reserves and technical means, so we have every opportunity to stop these activities," Mysnyk added.
As for the Chernihiv region, Mysnyk noted that Russian forces have not entered the region for a long time, although the threat remains.
Situation in the Sumy region
Earlier, the Center for Countering Disinformation reported that the Russian army was amassing forces for more active actions in the border area of the Sumy region. However, there are no indications of an offensive on Sumy.
Also, according to the State Border Guard Service, enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups continue attempting to cross the border of Ukraine in the Sumy region and mine the area.
