Russian troops intensify shelling of Kharkiv region: Vovchansk under heavy fire
Russian troops intensified shelling in the northern part of Kharkiv region, primarily targeting the city of Vovchansk. Currently, the city is being evacuated, according to the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov.
According to Syniehubov, Russian troops were shelling the Kharkiv region with guided aerial bombs, MLRS, and artillery throughout the night. Russian troops also tried to break through the border with subversive reconnaissance groups to no avail.
"Ukrainian Armed Forces are confidently holding their positions: not a single meter has been lost. The enemy group does not pose a threat to Kharkiv, its forces are only enough for provocations in the northern direction," emphasizes the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.
He notes that all authorities are working and fulfilling their duties.
"We urge civilians in the border settlements to take shelter," says Syniehubov.
At the same time, the head of the Vovchansk Military Administration Tamaz Gambarashvili says that Vovchansk has been under heavy Russian fire since 3 a.m.
"It's hard to say from which settlements they are shelling. There is no border crossing (by Russians - ed.)... We are engaged in evacuation. There are no children left in the city," Gambarashvili says.
Background
Over the past month, the Internet has been actively discussing the possibility of Russia's repeated attack on Kharkiv. The Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasize that the Russians do not have sufficient forces to capture one of the largest Ukrainian cities.
At the same time, according to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, the Russian army may be preparing an offensive against the Kharkiv and Sumy regions in early summer.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavliuk, the commander of the Ukrainian Land Forces, confirmed that the Russians could have plans to attack Kharkiv and Sumy, noting that it is not yet known how serious these plans are.
