The increasingly frequent appearances of Russian drones in Romania are a direct consequence of the intensification of Russian strikes on Ukrainian ports on the Danube, according to Radu Miruță, Romania's acting Defense Minister.
"Recently, attacks on Ukrainian ports on the Danube have reached a peak. On the Ministry of Defense's radars, near Romanian airspace but still within Ukraine, we have detected over 100 drones (...) that have attacked Ukrainian ports on the Danube seven times in recent days," Miruță emphasizes.
He confirms to reporters that Ukrainian air defense forces were able to successfully neutralize most of the Russian drones.
Despite this, their debris may continue to wash ashore along the Danube and the Black Sea in Romanian territory for some time.
In light of recent events, Miruță reminds everyone of the importance of not believing everything that pro-Russian propaganda says. According to him, attempts are being made to convince people that there is no war.
However, Russia's actions once again confirm the fact that the war is not only absolutely real but also has consequences for Romania.
The acting Defense Minister also confirms that, once it receives the ordered weapons under the European SAFE program, Romania will be better able to detect enemy drones flying at low altitudes.
This will make it possible to deploy aircraft less frequently and reduce the use of expensive fighter jet missiles.
Incidentally, on August 16, it was reported that Romania had shot down a Russian drone over its territory.
Shortly thereafter, NATO revealed for the first time the likely origin of the drone shot down over Romania.
