The death toll in the capital following Russia's attack has risen to nine. State Emergency Service rescuers are continuing to search for residents trapped under the rubble, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko.

According to Klitschko, rescuers evacuated 15 people from a residential building in the Podilskyi district, where the attack caused a partial collapse. Three women and six children were also rescued from the upper floors.

The mayor said that apartments on both sides of the building had been destroyed. Search efforts for victims are still underway.

A total of 43 people have been injured in the capital, while, tragically, nine people have been killed, Tkachenko said. Klitschko added that two of the injured had been hospitalized.

The Kyiv City Military Administration also reported a fire in a five-story residential building in the Holosiivskyi district.

What is known about Russia's attack on Kyiv

Russian forces attacked Kyiv overnight on July 6 with ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones. The strikes caused destruction, fires, and falling debris in two districts of the city.

Russia also launched Kalibr cruise missiles and missiles from strategic aircraft during the night.

The day before, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia was preparing another large-scale strike on Ukraine ahead of the NATO summit.
