Today, Russia carried out a drone strike on an evacuation bus in the Sumy region. The UN has called the attack the deadliest in recent weeks, the website of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission (HRMMU) reports.

"With nine civilians reported killed, this would be the deadliest attack in weeks. This is a stark reminder that civilians continue to be killed and injured on a daily basis across Ukraine," said Danielle Bell, Head of HRMMU.

At the moment, mission representatives are gathering additional information regarding the incident and the number of casualties.

UN Human Rights monitors added that if the information is confirmed, today's strike will become the deadliest attack since April 24, 2025, when at least 11 civilians were killed and 81 injured in an attack on Kyiv.

At the same time, the UN noted that the number of civilian casualties in May was somewhat lower than in April.

Russian strike on bus

This morning, a Russian Lancet kamikaze drone struck a regular bus transporting civilians from Bilopillia, the Sumy region.

Due to the attack, 9 people were killed and 7 others were injured. Most of the victims were elderly women.

Later, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that a family of three, a father, mother, and daughter, was killed in the attack.

"According to preliminary reports, the Russians killed a family: father, mother, and daughter died in the attack. My condolences to all the families and loved ones. All the deceased were civilians. And the Russians could not have failed to understand what kind of vehicle they were targeting. This was a deliberate killing of civilians," Zelenskyy wrote on social media.
