Two road workers were killed in the Kherson region by Russian drone strike, according to the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin.

The official shared that the airstrike by the Russians took place near the settlement of Stiyke.

There, the Russian drone "hit special equipment during repair work," informed the head of the Regional Military Administration.

He also mentioned that as a result of the Russian drone strike, two men, aged 36 and 44, received fatal injuries.

"Deep condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased," the official added on social media.

For reference: the village of Stiyke (formerly Chkalove) is located in the Velykooleksandrivska settlement community of the Beryslav district in the Kherson region. According to open sources, its population is 677.

The village of Stiyke survived Russian occupation – it was captured by Russian invaders on the first day of the full-scale invasion, February 24, 2022, but was liberated on November 10 of the same year by the Ukrainian Defense Forces during the counteroffensive in Kherson region.

On September 19 last year, the Ukrainian parliament supported the renaming of the village of Chkalove to Stiyke. The renaming came into effect on September 26, 2024.

Shelling of Kherson and region

Russians continue to shell Kherson and other settlements in the region, particularly those on the right bank of the Dnipro River. They widely uses drones, air bombs, as well as various types of rockets and artillery for strikes.

On April 16, 2023, Kherson was shelled, and during the attack, the head of the Military Administration, Roman Mrochk, came under fire.

On April 13, Russias shelled central Kherson, killing one person and injuring another. A children's medical facility in the city was damaged.

Furthermore, on April 17, Russians attacked an ambulance in Kherson, injuring a medic and a driver.

Additionally, on March 27, the central part of Kherson came under fire, and as a result of the attack, part of the city was left without electricity. Trolleybus services were suspended. In that mass shelling of Kherson, two people were killed. A paramedic team also came under attack.
