The Russian army launched a massive shelling attack on Kherson on the morning of April 16. The head of the Kherson City Military Administration, Roman Mrochko, came under attack, according to his Telegram channel.

Russian forces struck the central part of the city, dropping four guided aerial bombs. According to preliminary information, a 70-year-old woman suffered a blast injury and shrapnel wounds as a result of the attack. She was hospitalized.

A 61-year-old man was also taken to the hospital after suffering a blast injury and shrapnel wound to his leg during the morning artillery strike on the city’s Central district. He was inside his apartment at the time.

Later, Mrochko confirmed that a middle-aged man was killed in the Central district during the Russian strike. He was outside when the attack occurred, and his identity is being verified.

Due to damage to the trolley lines, trolleybus service on Routes 11 and 12 has been temporarily suspended in the Central district. The routes to Neskorenykh Square have also been halted due to the attacks.

While recording an address in the Tavriyskyi district, Mrochko came under artillery fire as Russian forces attacked the area again. He was unharmed and continued filming after the strike.

The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, warned that Russian troops are continuing to shell the Tavriyskyi district using multiple launch rocket systems.

Shelling of Kherson

It’s worth noting that Kherson was the only regional capital captured by Russian forces at the start of the full-scale invasion. Ukrainian defenders liberated the city and the right-bank part of the region in the fall of 2022 during a counteroffensive.

However, the left-bank part of the Kherson region remains under Russian occupation. The Russian army continues to shell Kherson and other settlements on the right bank of the Dnipro River daily.

On April 13, Russian forces shelled Kherson city center, killing one person and injuring another. A children’s medical facility in the city was also damaged in the attack.
