German prosecutors in Berlin have detained a Kazakh national who was leaking information about military aid to Ukraine to Russia, according to the German Federal Prosecutor's Office.

"Yesterday, April 28, the Federal Prosecutor's Office arrested a citizen of Kazakhstan, Sergey K. A search was also carried out at the premises of the suspect, as well as at the premises of a person who is not suspected of any wrongdoing," the prosecutor's office said.

It is noted that the man is suspected of cooperating with a foreign intelligence service.

What is known about the suspect's actions

It is known that Sergey K. had been in constant contact with a Russian intelligence service from Germany at least since May 2025. Before his arrest, the accused passed numerous pieces of information of various kinds to his handler.

In particular, he leaked details about Germany's military support for Ukraine and about the German arms and defense industry, including companies developing drones and robots.

In addition, he repeatedly sent photographs of public buildings in Berlin and military convoys on highways, including a convoy belonging to a NATO member state. He also proposed recruiting new individuals for sabotage and espionage activities.

Today, the suspect will be brought before an investigating judge of the Federal Court, who will issue an arrest warrant and decide on the preventive measure.

Cases of espionage for Russia

In March, the German prosecutor's office announced the detention of a 53-year-old Ukrainian citizen suspected of espionage for a Russian intelligence service.

In addition, in October 2025 in Brussels, a local police officer was detained on suspicion of espionage for China and, presumably, Russia. According to media reports, he had access to the international diplomatic community, including areas around European Union institutions.

Also, Russia is recruiting teenagers in the Netherlands for espionage. Two 17-year-old boys were detained there, suspected of collecting information in The Hague on behalf of a pro-Russian hacker.
