Russian forces heavily attack populated areas in the Sumy region. As a result of the strikes, more than 30,000 people have been left without electricity and gas supply, said Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, during a broadcast on Suspilne.

According to him, nearly 21,000 households are currently without electricity, and around 10,500 have no gas supply. Restoration efforts are ongoing in the region.

Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces carried out 135 attacks across the Sumy region. The majority — over 100 strikes — targeted the Krasnopillia community.

"Most of the households are currently not residing in the affected settlements due to forced evacuation and the unlivable conditions in the area," added the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration.

Attacks on Sumy region

Russian forces have recently intensified their attacks on the Sumy region.

In particular, on Saturday, May 17, a Russian Lancet loitering munition (kamikaze drone) struck a passenger bus evacuating civilians from Bilopillia in the Sumy region.

As a result of the attack, nine people were killed and seven others were injured. Most of the victims were elderly women.

Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the strike killed an entire family of three — a father, mother, and their daughter.

Today, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorov, said that more than 200 settlements in the region are subject to evacuation. As of a few days ago, over 60% of the population from these areas had already been evacuated.
