Russian propaganda is massively spreading AI-generated fakes about Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region, according to the Center for Countering Disinformation (TsPD) on Telegram.

As noted by the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Ukrainian Defense Forces officer Andriy Kovalenko, Russian propagandists have been tasked with spreading the lie that "Zelenskyy was not in Kupiansk" and that the city "is under Russian control."

To do this, they are creating fake videos using artificial intelligence, sometimes even leaving the watermarks of the platforms used to generate these videos.

"This is all a battle for the Western information space. Russia has no strategic victories but lies to Americans that it does," the head of the TsPD said.

The Center reminded that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Kupiansk on December 12, and the Ukrainian Defense Forces currently control over 90% of the city.

Other Russian propaganda fakes

As RBC-Ukraine previously reported, citing the TsPD, Russian propaganda is once again circulating TikTok videos featuring AI-generated Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers, supposedly stationed at various points along the front.

In these clips, the artificial characters speak about "collapsing defenses," "Russian troops breaking through the flanks," "chaos within units," "commander indifference," and so on.

Center analysts emphasize that the campaign’s main goal is psychological pressure on service members, undermining trust within units, and spreading a sense of hopelessness.

RBC-Ukraine had earlier reported that fake TikTok videos are being circulated claiming the "mass surrender" of Ukrainian troops near Pokrovsk. Most of these videos are accompanied by captions in various foreign languages. The accounts sharing these clips show signs of a coordinated network, specifically created to produce content promoting Kremlin narratives to foreign audiences, the TsPD concluded.
