On the night of October 7, Russian military forces launched another attack on the Ukrainian port of Pivdennyi. As a result of the strike, the civilian vessel PARESA, flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, was damaged, according to the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.

The vessel, which was transporting 6,000 tons of Ukrainian corn for export, was damaged near one of the port’s berths. Fortunately, none of the 15 crew members, citizens of Egypt and Syria, were injured.

This marks the 20th civilian ship to be damaged as a result of Russian attacks. Previously, Russia struck a vessel transporting wheat to Egypt.

Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister, Oleksii Kuleba, said that these attacks are attempts to disrupt the operation of Ukraine's maritime food corridor and undermine global food security.

Russia has traditionally claimed to target military cargo, but all of the attacks have been directed at civilian infrastructure. A recent similar strike in the Izmail district of the Odesa region damaged trucks and administrative buildings on the Romanian border.

Despite ongoing shelling, Ukraine’s maritime food corridor continues to operate around the clock. Over the past year, more than 70 million tons of goods have been exported, with over 2,500 ships departing from Ukrainian ports to countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe.

During the night of October 7, Russia attacked Ukraine using an Iskander-M ballistic missile, a guided Kh-59 air-launched missile, an unidentified missile, and strike drones. Ukrainian air defense managed to shoot down two Kinzhal missiles and 32 enemy drones.
